    Elementor #682

The Cross/Altar of Jesus Christ, Part 4 With this post, we conclude our brief look at the cross/altar of Jesus Christ. A Testimony There is an inseparable link between the grace of God and the love of God. Both are what He is, and both are demonstrated in the cross (Rom 5:8). With the death of Jesus, we find an undeserved Provision (grace) and a visual depiction of the lengths to which God would go to reconcile His creatures to Himself.  The manifestation of the Creator’s love for His creatures is shown in the death of Jesus Christ in place of the world, though they are fully culpable for their…

The Cross/Altar of Jesus Christ, Part 3

In part 2 we examine God’s communication to the human race through the atonement, painting a picture of what Jesus would later accomplish for the sins of the world (John 1:29). In this section, we will see that God tells His story with blood. A Sacrifice The cross of Jesus Christ is the single greatest event that has ever taken place for the benefit of the human race. While many may be quick to argue for the resurrection, and by no means would I want to give any indication that I am dispelling the glories of the Christ risen from the dead, the resurrection becomes an impossibility without the death…

The Cross/Altar of Jesus Christ, Part 2

In part 1, we established the truth that through the cross of Jesus Christ, God is speaking to the world. This second part in a four-part series will unfold what the Lord is saying through this unparalleled event. A Picture The prophet Isaiah writes, “Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his…

Worship Creator or Created: Results May Vary

We got this great question today: Question: How would you explain to a non-Christian that worshiping God is necessary vs. just using the tenants of the Christian faith as just a value structure for your life. It’s a nice thought, isn’t it? We should be able to simply follow the instructions in the Bible without having to worry about the Spiritual stuff. I knew a guy that called himself a Christian atheist. This was essentially what he claimed he did. I would contend, however, that it is not technically possible.

    STOP THE SWAP!

I have a friend from another country who sent me a gospel tract and asked for my feedback. What I found in the tract stirred up a lot of thoughts and emotions about how we in America talk about the Gospel. We have a terrible habit that is choking the life out of our gospel presentation. We have a huge problem in church circles. I call it termonology swap. Let me explain. The Gospel Of John is the book we go to to learn how to have eternal life. Jesus makes it clear that there is one requirement that must be met. It’s that we believe. There are a string of verses…

The Cross/Altar of Jesus Christ, Part 1

by Jeremy Edmondson The earthly life of Jesus Christ is nothing short of remarkable and we only have a fraction of all that He did and said as recorded in the Word of God. But we have no reason to feel short-changed, for what we have is more than enough Light. It proves His claims, vindicates His Person, leads men and women to salvation, and heartens the child of God to pursue Him in living a holy life. The fulfillment of prophecy alone in Jesus’ earthly life is enough to stagger the mind of the most educated men, seeing that the time gap between the foretelling of an event and…

Understanding Hebrews 10:26: Is Christ’s Sacrifice Sufficient for Me?

Introduction The Bible wasn’t given to us as a bunch of unconnected verses that all make perfect sense on their own. Sometimes, without the context, verses can sound like they mean the opposite of what the authors meant by what they wrote. It’s a terrible thing, but many times people take advantage of this fact and use isolated verses in a way that hurts people and devastates their walk with Christ. (Sometimes it’s out of ignorance. Sometimes it’s malicious. It’s always tragic.) It’s especially common for people to cite Scripture out of context in order to cause believers to doubt Christ’s love for them or the security of their salvation.…

Understanding Romans 9, Part 2, Why Does God Show Mercy or Harden?

By Grant Hawley Introduction If you haven’t seen part 1 of this series, please check it out here. In it, we looked at the context and theme of Romans 9, and in this article, we will look at why God hardens some and shows mercy to others. Romans 9 teaches us that God hardens some people and shows mercy to others. Calvinism says that God does this as a sovereign decree without consideration of any response or activity on the part of human beings. This Calvinistic doctrine is called Unconditional Election, and it forms the U of the TULIP acronym. Romans teaches us why God hardens some and shows mercy…
